| Missouri retreat for pedophile priests - Thursday, May 06, 2010 5-6-10 The Vianney Renewal Center in Dittmer, Missouri, is just 30 miles southwest of St. Louis. It's supposed to provide intense counseling, therapy, and strict supervision of priests. But the former therapeutic program coordinator told Investigative reporter Leisa Zigman the Vianney Renewal Center is home to some of the nation's most dangerous pedophile priests. Yet many served little to no prison time. Instead, diocese all over the country and probation and parole boards sent them to Vianney to undergo intense therapy and counseling in an environment that is strictly supervised. McCoy said, "There is no one monitoring them at all...When I first stepped foot on campus it reminded me of camp. It reminded me of a summer camp." (full story) |
| Belgian rights group contacted bishops in 1998 - Wednesday, May 05, 2010 5-3-10 The pedophilia scandal in the Belgian church no longer can be reduced to te abuse of the one bishop of Bruges. As bad as the personal failures of so many priests, there was the collective unwillingness of the church leadership to remedy this, as shows the registrerd letter the group "Human Rights in the Church" in 1998 sent to all bishops, and announcing a long list of glaring cases of sexual abuse by priests and clerics. | Utah priest says leadership has failed - Wednesday, May 05, 2010 5-4-10 "The reality is that Pope Benedict is part of all this," said the Rev. | From Ghana: Has the Vatican forgotten us? - Wednesday, May 05, 2010 5-4-10 It was with deep sadness and grave concern that many of us read the report appearing on the Ghanaweb.com on the 25th of April, 2010, that one Rev. Father Charles Asamoah, a Catholic Priest, not only inflicted brutal, savage cutlass wounds on a Ghanaian lady, but also exhibited extreme dereliction of Pastoral responsibility by engaging in sexual relationship with her and other women. Does this sad story of a sinful crime by a Catholic Priest in Ghana not pry the tight lid off the can of worms squirming inside the rotten hidden truths about the abuse by Catholic Priests in Ghana and elsewhere in Africa? "I believe that 90 per cent of the victims who are going to come forward have done so and anyone else who hasn't should not be forced to come forward through an inquiry," Fr McGrath told the Leader. | NSAC warns about Pope's specific words - Wednesday, May 05, 2010 5-5-10 National Survivor Advocates Coalition (NSAC) is increasingly concerned about the very specific words used by Pope Benedict. The pope called on all bishops to report abuse where they are “required” to report abuse to local authorities. We implore the pope to demand that all bishops report all abuse to local and state authorities. Our experience is highlighted by one example in the state of Maine in the United Statess. The bishop appointed an unlicensed counselor as the Victims’ Outreach Coordinator... (full story) |
