| Anglican bishops in Vatican talks - Monday, May 03, 2010 5-2-10 Three Church of England bishops travelled to Rome for fresh talks about a deal to allow Anglican clergy to join the Roman Catholic Church, it emerged. | Cleveland parishioners march and pray - Monday, May 03, 2010 5-1-10 Parishioners of various churches in the Cleveland Catholic Diocese took to the streets Saturday at 1 p.m. to peacefully march and pray from suppressed Historic St. Peter Church to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The group called upon Bishop Richard G. Lennon to agree to mediation for those parishes who are appealing his decision to unjustly shutter their churches. (full story) |

| SNAP expresses disappointment - Sunday, May 02, 2010 5-1-10 The main U.S. clerical abuse victim's group expressed disappointment that "the Vatican refused to admit its own complicity in concealing Maciel's crimes, which have been well-documented for more than 12 years." "The Vatican's lengthy cover-up and foot-dragging, and now its disingenuous denunciation of Maciel, is every bit as 'immoral' as the horrific child sex crimes by Maciel himself," said David Clohessy, executive director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. | Belgian bishop's scandal is widening - Sunday, May 02, 2010 5-1-10 De Standaard, a leading Dutch-language Belgian newspaper, reports that Bishop Vangheluwe may have lied about there being only one victim of his paedophile tendencies. There had been rumours about another victim in the bishop's family and circle of acquaintances and friends for a while, and VTM, a commercial broadcaster, has published information about the suspected second victim. | Belgian bishops received 120 calls in a week - Sunday, May 02, 2010 4-30-10 The commission for handling complaints of sexual abuse in a pastoral relationship has received 120 calls in a week to report sexual abuse by priests, said Eric de Beukelaer, spokesman for the Belgium bishops. The number of calls skyrocketed since last Friday when Bishop Roger Vangheluwe of Bruges resigned after admitting to abusing a young person for years. Bishop Harpigny on Friday called for victims to come forward. The number of alerts is expected to rise in coming weeks, de Beukelaer said. (full story) |

| Flores pleads not guilty - Saturday, May 01, 2010 5-1-10 Fr. Alejandro Flores pleaded not guilty Friday to 16 criminal counts alleging he sexually assaulted and abused a child, then attempted to abuse a second child over a five-year span starting in 2005. He pleaded not guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, six counts of criminal sexual assault, six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of indecent solicitation of a child and one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Kane County State's Attorney's office spokesman Chris Nelson said. | Adelaide's archdiocese in financial crisis - Saturday, May 01, 2010 5-1-10 Adelaide's Catholic Archdiocese is in financial crisis and has sacked staff and ruled out hiring new employees in a bid to save $3 million. A Catholic Church spokeswoman said the Archdiocese's income came from an incorporated body - the Catholic Church Endowment Society Inc - interests from deposits in the church's treasury, the Catholic Development Fund, a small number of properties that have a rental income such as the SA Water building and a small number of donations and bequests that do not go direct to causes or parishes.
